You Can Lose Weight by Drinking Lots of Water

Water may be the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

Water can be really helpful for weight loss but is not a magic bullet. Staying fully hydrated while eating a healthy diet, exercising and getting enough rest will help you lose weight and keep it off, but simply drinking more water and making no other changes is not enough to burn off fat.

One of the biggest mistakes in a fat loss program is failing to drink enough water. Drink water 20 minutes before you eat. Because water is an appetite suppressant, drinking it before meals can make you feel fuller, therefore reducing the amount of food you eat.  Drinking water can help reduce appetite and make you burn more calories.

If you are dieting, it is important to drink water so your liver can effectively metabolize body fat. It's also possible to argue that drinking water can help you lose weight because it makes you feel full and therefore less apt to eat.

Water helps rid the body of waste. In weight loss, your kidneys need plenty of water to carry out their duties efficiently – processing waste products. By not drinking water you put your liver on double duty, decreasing its fat burning potential and causing you to store more fat. This shows up as swollen feet, hands and legs. Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When your body gets the water it needs to function optimally, fluids are perfectly balanced. Add some lemon.  Lemons and limes help to flush out toxins from your digestive tract.

Hydrated muscles are strong muscles. This leads to better workouts and more growth stimulation.  If you're dehydrated, both your workouts and your results will suffer. Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone, by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by pre- venting dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss. Shrinking cells are buoyed by water which plumps the skin and leaves it clear and resilient.

How much water is enough? A minimum of .5 ounces for every pound. Add one additional glass for every 25 pounds you are over your ideal weight.
